20 Things You Didn't Know About Blade Runner 2049
1. Blade Runner 2079?
Blade Runner 2049 was released nearly four years ago, and sadly disappointing box office returns and the current global situation have made prospects for a third entry somewhat remote... until recently.
Science fiction is clearly a play-pen that Denis Villeneuve enjoys; 2049, Arrival and the soon to be released latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune (arriving hopefully in October 2021) all suggest that he is extremely comfortable with this style of movie-making. Speaking with Empire in January 2020, Villeneuve said:
"... If you ask me if I’d like to revisit this universe in a different way, I can say yes. It would need to be a project on its own. Something disconnected from both other movies."
The ending left viewers with the possibility of a Replicant rebellion and as the prequel shorts prove, this is a densely populated universe, with easily enough sci-fi musings to span at least another thirty years, so fingers crossed...
