Though it's well known that Christopher Nolan's brother Jonathan has co-written many of his scripts and is the creator of HBO's hit sci-fi show Westworld, the pair also have another sibling whose profile remains low for reasons that will quickly become obvious.

The pair's older brother Matthew was arrested in 2009 on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering a Florida businessman in Costa Rica.

However, mere weeks into his prison stay while awaiting trial, it was discovered that he was planning to stage a daring escape from his 11th-floor prison cell.

By the time Nolan was sentenced to 14 months in prison for his planned escape, he had already been sat in prison for 16 months, at which point he was set free, with the American courts refusing to extradite him on the original charges due to a lack of evidence.

Though Nolan was due to face separate charges for falsifying documents, virtually no information about the third Nolan brother has become available since, and his Hollywood siblings haven't ever spoken publicly about his situation.
