20 Things You Didn't Know About Clueless

6. Mr. Hall Is Based On A Real Person

One of Clueless' most memorable supporting roles is that of Cher's teacher Mr. Hall, played by the inimitable Wallace Shawn, who also went on to reprise the role in 18 of the TV show's episodes.

Mr. Hall was actually based loosely on Herb Hall, a real debate teacher who worked at Beverly Hills High School and was a friend of Amy Heckerling's.

Hilariously, as payback for inspiring one of the movie's characters, the real Herb Hall himself also has a small walk-on role in the film as Bronson Alcott High School's Principal (pictured right).
