20 Things You Didn't Know About Die Another Day

Several high-profile female-led action films were released in the early 2000s, so MGM seriously considered giving Halle Berry’s Jinx her own spin-off movie. Stephen Frears was hired to direct it and now-regular Bond screenwriters, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the script.

However, whilst Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) had been successful, their respective sequels - Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life (both 2003) - only just broke even financially, whilst Halle Berry had her own famous flop: Catwoman (2004). The studio therefore chose to press ahead with the next Bond instead, much to the producers’ disappointment.

Following the poor reception that Die Another Day received from fans and critics alike, the filmmakers not only took Bond back to basics in the next entry, but also rebooted the entire Double-0 Seven franchise. This meant that Berry’s offer to return as Jinx in a future Bond film (purportedly even for free) was also shelved.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
