Django Unchained is a film that deals with a controversial subject, that's clear. It's important to try to consider the sensitivities of potential audiences when putting the film together. Of course, Tarantino only does this to an extent. But even he could probably see why releasing toy doll figures of the characters in the movie would be a bad idea. Activists criticised the merchandise for being socially irresponsible, saying that the toys made a mockery of slavery.

Unsurprisingly, the Weinstein Company pulled the merchandise, saying in a statement: "In light of the reaction to the Django Unchained action figures we are removing them from distribution. We have tremendous respect for the audience and it was never our intent to offend anyone. Action figures have been created for all of Quentin's films, including Inglourious Basterds, and as a matter of course [were] produced for Django Unchained as well. They were meant to be collectibles for people 17 years and older, which is the audience for the film."
