2. Bryan Cranston Came Up With Shannon's Death Scene

Another extremely unpleasant burst of violence involves the death of poor Shannon, who has his wrist suddenly and calmly slashed by Bernie.

It's a quietly callous scene that feels very Refn by design, but it was in fact Bryan Cranston himself who apparently suggested the exact means through which Shannon would die.

It's easy to imagine a lesser film simply having Bernie stab Shannon repeatedly or gun him down, but here we're forced to linger on Shannon helplessly bleeding out while Bernie "comforts" him in his final moments.

Cranston suggested the precise way that Bernie would cut along Shannon's arm during a script reading at Refn's house. We can only hope they weren't also eating at the time.
