20 Things You Didn't Know About Forrest Gump

1. 9/11 Caused The Planned Sequel To Be Scrapped

Groom released Gump and Co. in 1995, the year after Zemeckis' movie hit screens, and by the early 2000s, plans were in place for the sequel, with returning screenwriter Eric Roth adapting Gump and Co. into a script.

But fate had other plans, as Roth submitted his completed script one day before the 9/11 terrorist attacks, resulting in the film being delayed as studios reconsidered their projects in the context of a post-9/11 world.

Ultimately it was decided that the film's tone just wasn't appropriate following the attacks, and despite a number of attempts to revive the project, including a last-ditch effort in 2007, it was effectively informally cancelled, languishing in development hell forever more.

Some movies just aren't meant to be made, and honestly, maybe it's for the best that Forrest Gump was a mere one-off.
