20 Things You Didn't Know About Gone Girl

14. It's David Fincher's Highest-Grossing Film To Date

Gone Girl marked Fincher's tenth feature film release, and quickly became the highest-grossing film of his career.

Grossing an impressive $369.3 million against a $61 million budget, Fincher ingeniously exploited the superficial trashiness of the central premise to lure more casual audiences in, before unleashing a far darker and more twisted ride than just about anyone unfamiliar with the book ever expected.

Despite his constant critical acclaim, Gone Girl is just one of three Fincher-directed movies to gross more than $300 million worldwide, the other two being Se7en ($327.3 million) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ($335.8 million).

Needless to say, with Mank going direct to Netflix and his next movie project at least a few years away, Gone Girl will continue to hold this crown for the foreseeable future - especially as Fincher recently bailed from his planned gig directing the World War Z sequel.
