15. The Painting Was Painted By Nicolas Pileggi's Mother
Continuing with familial relations, this time with Nicolas Pileggi, the author of the book on which the film's based, Wiseguy, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese.
Pileggi's mother sort of has a cameo in the movie. She doesn't physically appear, but a certain artwork that she painted does.
That would be the painting that Tommy's mother shows the boys in the dinner scene, the one with the man and two dogs in the boat, each dog facing different directions.
It's a nice little detail that Pileggi's mother got to have her painting featured in a feature film her son co-wrote.
