11. Nick Hornby Was Paid $500,000 For The Rights To His Book
Back when Touchstone first acquired the rights to Hornby's book, they paid the author a stonking $500,000 for the pleasure, obviously envisioning a considerable box office success on their hands.
Ultimately it didn't seem to pay off, though, as the film grossed just $47.1 million against a sizable $30 million budget - about $45 million in 2020 money - with the cost likely being inflated due to the film's extensive soundtrack licensing.
Still, High Fidelity endures as a cult classic 20 years later, and home video sales were presumably encouraging enough to make the recent High Fidelity TV series worthwhile.
