While the last entry was possibly coincidental, this next piece of trivia regarding the song and Édith Piaf definitely was a coincidence, according to Christopher Nolan.

As stated, Non, je ne regrette rien is featured heavily in Inception. Marion Cotillard, who played Mal, actually portrayed Piaf in the 2007 film La Vie En Rose and won an Oscar for the performance that rocketed her to super stardom.

However, one person who apparently didn't know any of this was Christopher Nolan.

Once Cotillard was cast, and Nolan learned this information, he reportedly wanted to remove the song from the movie so as to avoid speculation that she was cast because of her performance as Piaf.

Composer Hanz Zimmer ultimately convinced Nolan to keep the song in.
