20 Things You Didn't Know About Mad Max: Fury Road

6. Warner Bros. Green-Lit Additional Filming

As anyone who’s already seen the movie will already be aware, Mad Max: Fury Road is essentially one extended chase sequence bookended by scenes that take place in Immortan Joe’s Citadel stronghold. Those bookends were essential if the film’s narrative was to make any real sense, yet it was those same scenes that Miller was forced to sacrifice due to spiralling costs.

Fortunately, after watching a rough cut cobbled together by Miller, Warner Bros. had the foresight to entrust the director with enough money to bring his vision to fruition. As such, cast and crew reconvened at the end of 2013 for 19 days of additional filming at Sydney’s Fox Studios to get those crucial scenes in the can, and Miller had his ending (and beginning).

A good thing too, as the Citadel scenes include some of the film’s most memorable moments.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
