Another reason why the script was so hard to write was because of the tricky and complex language used throughout.

Miller’s Crossing incorporates a lot of phrases from the 20s period, much in a similar vein to how their future work, Fargo includes the idiosyncratic language used by the Minnesotan people.

Some classic lingo includes a “twist” (a term for a woman), a “yegg” (a criminal) and “schmatt” (yiddish word meaning poor).
