20 Things You Didn't Know About Mission Impossible 2
1. The One Mission No One Cares About
I called this movie the black sheep of the franchise and I'm not the only one who thinks it. In fact it would appear that even Tom Cruise and the current writers of Mission: Impossible have forgotten all about MI2.
With the exception of Ethan Hunt and Luther Stickwell, no other characters who appear in MI2 have reappeared in any of the other movies. Despite the movie ending with Hunt and Nyah together, Thandie Newton seemingly vanishes afterward, with Michelle Monaghan playing Hunt's love interest in MI3. Anthony Hopkins is replaced Laurence Fishburne who in turn was replaced by Tom Wilkinson for Ghost Protocol.
While the franchise has always characters drop out casually from movie to movie, the most rent installments have tried to establish some sense of continuity and even bought back actors from the very first movie as well as establish ties to original characters, most notably Vanessa Kirby's White Widow in Fallout is the daughter of Max from the first film played by Vanessa Redgrave.
But the lack of connections to MI2 hint that this was the ones mission that no one, not even Mr Cruise, cares about.
