20 Things You Didn't Know About Psycho

7. Hitchcock Totally Trolled The Censors While Editing The Movie

Psycho Janet Leigh
Paramount Pictures

To the surprise of nobody, Psycho faced an uphill battle against the censors of its era, who requested specific changes to the shower scene above all else.

The Hays Office especially objected to the brief presence of Marion's bare breasts in the final cut of the film. Hitchcock, well aware of what he did, then hatched an ingeniously simple plan to get one over on the censors.

He simply waited and sent the very same print of the movie back to the office a few days later without making any edits to the movie at all. Hilariously, the censors passed it unchallenged this time.

Though Leigh did shoot most of the shower scene herself, the more risque shots were in fact performed by Playboy cover girl Marli Renfro.
