20 Things You Didn't Know About Raiders Of The Lost Ark

10. Star Wars Connections

Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Paramount Pictures

Because George Lucas co-wrote the script, you knew he had to put in a little Star Wars Easter egg, didn't you? I mean, if he didn't, he wouldn't be George Lucas.

When Indiana Jones enters the Well of Souls, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the glyphs on the golden pillar resemble the Star Wars characters, R2-D2 and C-3P0. Also, Jock's plane in the first scene has the letters OB-CP0, as a nod to Obi-Wan Kenobi and C-3P0.

Now, these references are quite well-known between fans. But what's better than a Star Wars reference in Raiders of the Lost Ark? That's right. A Raiders of the Lost Ark reference in Star Wars! In the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Twi'leks can be seeing carrying the Ark in the episode, Liberty on Ryloth. At the end of Raiders, the Ark is tucked into a cargo box labelled "9906753". This number appears on a box that cannot be opened in Han's freighter in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On top of that, the medallion used to activate the Staff of Ra is used by....(sigh)... Jar Jar Binks in the episode, The Gungan General.
