20 Things You Didn't Know About Scary Movie
1. Scary Movie 2 Was Released Less Than A Year Later
With the first movie's shocking success, Dimension Films wasted no time at all rushing a sequel into production, with Scary Movie 2 starting shooting barely six months after the original film hit cinemas.
Scary Movie 2 was released on July 4, 2001, just shy of a year from when the first film hit screens, and only around two months after shooting was completed.
It's not terribly surprising, then, that the film was widely criticised for being a sequel rushed out for a quick buck, even if it was ironically the lowest-grossing of the first four films, albeit still raking in $141.2 million worldwide.
The hasty release itself almost feels like a meta-commentary on the Scream series, given that Scream 2 was also released less than a year after its predecessor, though fared much better with critics than Scary Movie 2.
