Scorsese spent five months working on the film's script shortly thereafter, but when Warner Bros. continually stalled the start of production amid budgetary concerns, a fed up Scorsese bailed and moved onto Shutter Island instead, with DiCaprio in tow of course.
This kickstarted a healthy relationship with Paramount, who then distributed Shutter Island, Scorsese's follow-up Hugo and, yes, the eventual 2013 release of The Wolf of Wall Street, as well as his 2016 epic drama Silence.
