Once the film was in the cannister and test audiences were being invited to screenings, it was time for investors and producers to do some hand-wringing in the lobby. It didn't take long for them to give each other knowing glances, as they noticed that audience members would literally race to and from the bathroom, not wanting to miss a second of the film.

After complex shooting schedules, a lead performance from an actor who had just barely proven himself marketable, heavy rewrites and a female protagonist that was largely unknown at the time, 20th Century Fox had managed to get out the summer adrenaline rush for which they had hoped.
