20 Things You Didn't Know About Star Trek Generations

6. Captain Harriman's Family Are A Ferris Bueller Easter Egg

Enterprise-B captain John Harriman (Alan Ruck) will never rank among anyone's favourite Trek captains, but it's probably not entirely fair to disparage him with such a brief amount of screen time, especially when he's commanding an under-stocked ship, wasn't expecting anything beyond a gentle cruise, and has to deal with the abject stress of Kirk watching him work.

But one of the most amusing nuggets of information about an otherwise bland and uninteresting character comes from Harriman's personnel file in the 1998 video game Star Trek: Starship Creator.

The file mentions that Harriman has "a wife named Sloane and a son named Ferris who both live in Chicago, as well as interests in 20th century Italian sports automobiles."

This is of course all a big cutesy reference to actor Alan Ruck's much-loved role as Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and while the canonicity of this file can perhaps be disputed, does anything in Harriman's brief screen time actually contradict it? Nope.
