Hugh Quarshie had a small-but-distinctive role in The Phantom Menace as Captain Quarsh Panaka, Queen Amidala's chief of security at the Theed Palace.

George Lucas invited him to reprise his role in Attack of the Clones, with the intent for him to be killed in the opening assassination attempt on Padme.

However, Quarshie only agreed to sign on for the sequel if he could read the movie's entire script, and when that request was refused, he opted not to return.

His character was ultimately replaced with that of chief of Security Captain Gregar Typho (Jay Laga'aia).
