20 Things You Didn't Know About Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith

9. It's The First Star Wars Movie To Be Rated PG-13

Revenge of the Sith marked another first for the Star Wars franchise by being the first film in the series to receive a PG-13 audience rating from the MPAA.

Given that every prior entry into the series had been rated PG, this caused a minor stir among fans, that this climactic entry would be the darkest and most violent yet.

The MPAA issued the rating due to "sci-fi violence and some intense images," largely due to the admittedly gnarly sequence in which Anakin is horribly burned on Mustafar.

For his part, Lucas was absolutely fine with the MPAA's decision and felt no need to protest it, agreeing that the film's darker tone made a PG-13 appropriate.

Since then, every single subsequent live-action Star Wars film has had a PG-13 rating.
