20 Things You Didn't Know About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

7. The Movie Almost Included A Batman Reference

Early in the film, Raphael goes to catch a movie (while kitted out in a concealing raincoat and hat ensemble, of course), and he's later seen walking out of the cinema exclaiming, "Where do they come up with this stuff?", while a poster for the 1986 cult classic Critters is visible nearby.

But this brief scene was originally supposed to feature a different quip, with Raphael instead saying, "Great car, stupid costume," in reference to Tim Burton's Batman, which was in cinemas while TMNT was being filmed.

It's not entirely clear why the Batman reference didn't make it to the big screen, but it was nevertheless featured in the official comic book adaptation of the film.
