20 Things You Didn't Know About The Prestige

8. ...Unlike Hugh Jackman, Who Ended Up In A Sex Shop With David Copperfield

On the other hand, one person who did do a lot of research into the world of magicians was star Hugh Jackman - only, it didn't work out the way he had expected.

After he was cast, Nolan encouraged Jackman to do a bit of digging into magic and illusions, telling him to go and watch a David Copperfield show along the way. Jackman did just that, and even got some one-on-one time with Copperfield once the show had ended. Only, it wasn't the most normal of encounters:

"We went to this street on the outskirts of Vegas, to this sex shop! I was with my wife so there were the three of us, at a sex shop, and he pulls out his keys and opens the door. We walked in and I’m thinking 'alright what have we got into here?' Then he says 'push the nipple on the mannequin over there.' I pushed the nipple and these doors open and you enter this museum, the size of four football fields, of magic memorabilia. It was 12.30 at night and he did a 90 minute show for us, until two in the morning."

Yep. Hugh Jackman and David Copperfield walked into a sex shop for a private magic show. You could not make this stuff up.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
