Get ready to feel old, because we're about to tell you that The Prestige is approaching its 14th birthday. Yikes. And not only that, but Martin Scorsese's legendary gangster flick The Departed will also hit that milestone in the coming few months.

On top of sharing a birth year, these two movies also share a history at the box-office. Opening in October 2006 (in North America), they were financial rivals for several weeks, and while The Departed made the most money overall, Nolan's film - during its opening weekend - just beat Scorsese's effort to the top of the box-office chart.

On the weekend of 20-22 October 2006, The Prestige made $14 million, a fraction more than The Departed's $13 million. From here, the two were pretty much tied for the next few weeks, with $9 million the following weekend, and $7 million the next.

It was an entertaining race between two fantastic movies, but they both dropped down the chart when Casino Royale and Happy Feet took over cinemas in November.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
