17. Kubrick Lied About The Blood Coming Out Of The Elevator To The MPAA

Faking blood is an old Hollywood tradition, and they've become VERY good at finding suitable replacements for blood in movies. But if there's one lesson to take from this list, it's that Kubrick's dedication to his craft tends to lead him to laughing in the face of sensible options.

So when he made the bloody elevator scene, he used ACTUAL blood, instead of the many substitutes that effects wizards could come up with at the time. besides causing multiple electrical shortages due to the high glucose in the blood, making it one of the harder shots in the movie, Kubrick also had to content with the MPAA jumping up his ass about this.

Desperate for an excuse that would cover his ass while also letting him continue making the film he wanted, Kubrick thought up a frankly ludicrous lie: it wasn't blood, it was "rusty water". Of course, such an obvious and idiotic lie had no choice in the eyes of the universe but to work 100%, so the MPAA bought it and allowed Kubrick to carry on.

Suckers.
