Though the casual listener might assume that John Carpenter composed the film's musical score himself - as he so often does for his movies - in this case it was actually created by the late, great Ennio Morricone, of course known for his legendary compositions for Sergio Leone's spaghetti western classics.

In a move that will remain baffling until the end of time, Morricone ended up nominated for a Razzie for his tense, pulsing, decidedly Carpenter-esque score, but more than 30 years later, Morricone also recycled some unused material from this movie while scoring Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

Ironically, that score finally won Morricone his long overdue Best Original Score Oscar, in which case can we kinda-sorta consider The Thing an Oscar-winning film?
