Later this summer Tom Hanks will be able to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his first on screen appearance. That's some going for any actor, but Hanks has stayed at the top of his game for almost the entire time. He's an unchallengeable A-lister and Hollywood royalty.

After 40 years of entertaining masses of people for masses of money, you will be hard-pressed to find anyone that has done it better. He's one of the industry's absolute favourites and a star in age when stars are waining in favour of performers. He's charming, watchable and has way more range than anyone seems to give him credit for.

But how well do you really know him? Do you know the film he thinks is his worst? Or the only one he's seen more than twice (which he credits as having changed his entire psyche)? Or how about the secrets of his method acting weight gain...?

Well, you're about to.

20. He Has Famous Ancestors (And Played Several Of Them)

Born on July 9th, 1956, Hanks is a distant relative of Abraham Lincoln, Walt Disney, George Clooney, Fred Rogers (aka Mr. Rogers), and Bill Cosby's wife Camille.

And so far, he has played three of them; Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks (2013), and Abraham Lincoln in Freedom: A History of US (2003).
