20 Things You Didn't Know About Unbreakable
3. The Film Was Shot Like A Comic Book
One of the many things M. Night Shyamalan did with his film to pay tribute to the comic book style is the continuous use of single shot takes. The director also used this technique to make the audience feel part of that world and achieve a symbiotic relationship between the audience and protagonist, David Dunn.
Shyamalan described his own directing methods as very aggressive, demanding from his actors various single shot takes that could last over three minutes. If any actor or extra made a mistake during these takes, they would have to be done again painstakingly. There are over thirty scenes in the film that are shot in one take.
