20 Things You Didn't Know About War Of The Worlds

4. Tom Cruise Wore 60 Versions Of Ray's Jacket Throughout Filming

Tom Cruise spends the overwhelming majority of the movie wearing a distinctive brown leather jacket, which over the course of the film naturally gets incredibly mussed-up.

And in order to convincingly show what hell Cruise's Ray has been through, the film's costume designer Joanna Johnston created a staggering 60 different versions of the jacket, ranging from pristine to horribly weathered.

Given that the bulk of the film's high-stress action sequences were shot early in production for the sake of the VFX team, it was even more vital than usual to have a wide array of tattered garments immediately ready to maintain continuity between scenes.
