20 Things You Didn't Know About War Of The Worlds

16. There Are Two Secret Cameos

War of the Worlds 2005 Tom Cruise
Paramount Pictures

There are two major cameos in the movie which you've almost certainly never noticed.

First of all, Gene Barry, who starred as Dr. Clayton Forrester in the 1953 The War of the Worlds movie, appears briefly at the end as Rachel (Dakota Fanning) and Robbie's (Justin Chatwin) grandfather, while the grandmother is played by Ann Robinson, who co-starred with Barry as Sylvia van Buren in the 1953 film.

Robinson's cameo is especially note-worthy, given that this was the third War of the Worlds adaptation she'd appeared in: between the 1953 and 2005 films, she also reprised the Sylvia van Buren role for three episodes of the 1988 TV series.
