8. Kevin Costner & Others Almost Drowned During Shooting
Shooting on water is at best a total logistical nightmare, but there's also the very real possibility that members of the cast and crew might end up in actual, mortal danger.
That's exactly what happened on Waterworld, with none other than Kevin Costner himself almost being drowned after his trimaran was nearly capsized by a squall while he was helplessly tied to the mast.
It gets worse. Co-stars Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tina Majorino also drowned on their very first day of shooting when their trimaran sank, while Kevin Costner's stunt double was washed out to sea and almost died, and several extras also reportedly had their own brushes with death.
It's easy to see why so many movies shoot in the controllable confines of a soundstage. It sure didn't make people like Life of Pi any less, huh?
