20 Things You Didn't Know About Waterworld

2. It Was Nominated For One Oscar (And Four Razzies)

To top off the movie's thorough, unpredictable weirdness, it also stands among the few films to be nominated for both Oscars and Razzies.

Despite its status as a glossy tentpole, Waterworld received just a single solitary Academy Award nomination for Best Sound, which it quite rightly lost to Apollo 13.

On the flip-side, it also landed four Razzie nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actor (Costner), and Worst Supporting Actor (Hopper), winning the latter.

Waterworld may not have been a great film, but as is the Razzies' prerogative, they clearly couldn't resist dog-piling on the movie that was Hollywood's punching bag in 1995.
