20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Children Of Men
2. A Non-Violent Action Hero
Theo Faron initially seems to be a textbook case of a reluctant hero who eventually joins the fray in bombastic fashion. However, this is not the case as he never picks up a firearm at any point in the film, nor engages in any form of malicious violence. This posits him as a peaceful yet capable hero, one that is rare in a film of this nature.
Furthermore, animals seem to be comfortable near the protagonist, as farm owner Tomasz (Jacek Koman) points out that his dogs typically do not take a liking to strangers, yet are comfortable around Theo.
These qualities help sell the fact that Theo does not need violence to accomplish his goal, and this contrasts him well against other characters in the film such as Patric (Charlie Hunnam) and Syd (Peter Mullan) who are more prone to violent and aggressive behaviour.
