20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About John Wick
1. The Film's Reliance On Wide Shots And Limited Cuts Was Not Completely Intentional
Many have (rightly) heralded the action sequences in the John Wick franchise, as they have served as a much needed alternative to the overblown, poorly shot and haphazardly edited fare that grew prominent in the wake of Paul Greengrass' Bourne films.
While having two former stunt performers as directors certainly helped with the action scenes' high quality, there was another reason why the film's footage was presented as it was.
Due to the limited budget for extensive coverage during the movie's production, as well as next to no resources for reshoots, the filmmaking team had to be very intentional while showcasing the combat and shootout scenes. That meant fewer takes, and a more immediate need to execute choreography in a seamless fashion - thus giving birth to Wick's iconic and influential brand of action.
