20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Godfather

14. Marlon Brando Wasn't The Only Cast Member To Boycott The Oscars

The Godfather
Academy Awards

Over the years, many actors refused to show up for the Oscars, even when they were nominated for prominent awards. Of course, the person most infamous for shunning the annual ceremony is Marlon Brando.

Even though he was the favourite to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1973, he boycotted the show. When the host, Roger Moore, announced Brando as the winner, civil rights activist Sascheen Littlefeather took the podium on his behalf and read a speech that discussed how disrespectful the film industry was to Native Americans.

Even though this incident is common knowledge, people forget Al Pacino also refused to attend the ceremony that night. Pacino was furious that he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor despite having more screen time in The Godfather than Brando, who was nominated for Best Actor and so, boycotted the show.
