20 Things You Somehow Missed In Avatar

18. Tom Sully's Unconvincing Corpse

Avatar Jake Neytiri

Avatar begins with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) learning about the death of his twin brother Tom, and we briefly glimpse Tom's dead body being prepped for cremation.

In the first shot, James Cameron very clearly just had Sam Worthington himself lay down and play the part, but when we cut to the overhead shot, Worthington has been bafflingly switched out for a dummy that, honestly, looks nothing like him.

The shot lasts only a few seconds so it's easily missed on an initial watch, but after so many years and so many repeat viewings, it now sticks out like a sore thumb. Why not just have Worthington lie down and play the corpse himself? Was he busy that day?

Perhaps this shot was added late in production after Worthington was no longer available.
