14. Redubbing Dialogue

It is well-documented that Crispin Glover didn't have a good relationship with the film's director, which led to him being recast in the sequels. But there is one thing you can't take away from Glover; he was born to play Marty's wimpy father, George McFly.

In fact, you could argue he was too suited for the role. Glover won the part because his natural nervous energy seemed perfect for George. But Glover was too nervous. Despite appearing in over ten films before being cast in Back to the Future, Glover felt like he was still a newcomer in the acting world and so, stuttered through most of his lines. He got so worked up before shooting one scene, he lost his voice, forcing him to mime his dialogue and dub it in later.

But that's not only scene that required dubbing. When Marty tries to warn Doc about how he will be killed by terrorists in the future, Doc can't hear him because of the storm in the background. The jet engine which made the sound effects for the storm were so loud, the actors genuinely couldn't hear each other so they were forced to dub in their lines in post-production.
