If you managed to catch this very slight aural Easter egg, give yourself a huge pat on the back.

When the Maitlands enter the afterlife waiting room, a voiceover the loudspeaker can be heard saying, "Flight 409 is arriving at gate three."

This isn't a random joke about a plane crash sending its doomed occupants to the afterlife, though: this is a reference to United Air Lines Flight 409, which crashed in Wyoming on October 6, 1955, killing all 66 passengers and crew onboard.

Furthermore, it was the deadliest airline crash in the history of American commercial aviation at the time.

Even accepting the time discrepancy - presuming that Beetlejuice isn't set in 1955 - that's... a pretty damn dark joke, even for Tim Burton.
