20 Things You Somehow Missed In Blade Runner

2. Happy Birthday

Blade Runner
Warner Bros.

Something often incorrectly labelled a mistake concerns Roy's lifespan. At the beginning of the movie we are told that a) these replicants have a four-year lifespan and, b) this is November 2019, and c) Roy's inception date is January 2016. Ergo, he's going to simply shut down in January 2020, meaning the ending of Blade Runner actually makes no sense.

However, it's since been confirmed that the movie does take place over the course of 2 months. While not explicitly stated, there are major gaps between many of the events, meaning that Roy's life does simply end when its supposed to.
