20 Things You Somehow Missed In Mad Max: Fury Road

19. Nux's Body Paint Disappears As He Regains His Humanity

Mad Max Fury Road
Warner Bros.

Perhaps the most compelling character arc throughout Fury Road is that of Nux (Nicholas Hoult), the War Boy who is transformed from one of Immortan Joe's devoted acolytes to, well, a human being with an actual soul.

This is also conveyed visually through Nux's war paint - at the start of the movie his white body paint is thick enough to make him look extremely pallid, even skeletal, though by the time he makes his ultimate sacrifice at film's end, it's decidedly more worn, allowing his actual skin to show underneath.

This reflects the fact that Nux progressively regains his humanity over the course of the movie.
