20 Things You Somehow Missed In Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Denholm Elliott has a brief, but highly memorable role as Indy's main backer (and some may also say his father figure), Marcus Brody.

Elliott has this great scene where he theorizes about the purpose and meaning of the Ark of the Covenant, drawing us into his words and his performance before Indy effortlessly dispels his darker take on the whole affair.

However, followers of Steven Spielberg's work will know that Elliott's Marcus Brody followed very closely on the heels of another Brody that Spielberg helped to depict onscreen: Roy Scheider's Chief Martin Brody in 1975's Jaws. Could they possibly be related? Perhaps not, as Jaws is not really a supernatural film. Still, it is an interesting coincidence, even if Indy might scoff at the idea of coincidences.

Denholm Elliott would, of course, return in an expanded role as Marcus Brody in 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, sadly his last take on the role prior to his death in 1992.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
