16. Watto Was Actually Crippled

In the years after acting as the first of his kind to flutter into the galaxy far, far away, Watto's Toydarian race would ultimately become a consistent part of the Star Wars universe, with Toydaria popping up during the animated Clone Wars series in particular.

One of the most notable features of this alien species comes in the form of the Toydarians' reliance on using their wings to get around the place, despite boasting a set of fully-functioning legs. Well, in most cases.

When it comes to arguably the most famous Toydarian of the lot, it turns out Watto was actually relying on his wings for another reason. According to the script for Episode I, the Tatooine junk dealer was crippled to the point of not being able to use both his legs, with one foot being longer than the other if you look closely.

In fact, the Expanded Universe once dove into how Watto sustained said leg injury (and a broken tusk) before his appearance in The Phantom Menace, with these injuries actually coming from his time as a soldier in the Ossiki Confederacy Army.
