Inspiration can be found just about anywhere. And when it came time to name two of The Lost World's feature human personalities, screenwriter David Koepp turned to the world of music for guidance.

Referring to his favourite tune sang by Warren Zevon by the name of Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Koepp would mine the lyrics of this piano-boasting melody in his search for the monikers of Pete Postlethwaite and Vince Vaughn's characters.

In the end, Koepp would land on Roland and Van Owen both making their way into Postlethwaite and Vaughn's Jurassic persons, respectively, with both names popping up over the course of the sub-four-minute song.
