20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Prestige

7. A Candlelit Form Of Electricity

When he arrives in Colorado Springs, an amazed Robert Angier remarks to his carriage driver that the entire city boasts electric light. It transpires that this is a gift to the city from Nikola Tesla in exchange for allowing him to perform his highly secretive experiments.

However, even though the hotel in which Angier stays is extraordinarily lavish and is also equipped with electric light, the interior of the building is shown as relying upon oil lamps and candles rather than electricity.

Whilst dinner by candlelight can be quite romantic, it is peculiar that, given that the town and the hotel are both equipped with electricity and the hotel manager (Ron Perkins) clearly empathises with Tesla, the interior does not boast any electric devices.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
