20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Prestige

3. Nikola Tesla's Different Coloured Eyes

The Prestige involves the discreet use of computer generated imagery (CGI). For instance, in the sequence in which Angier arrives in Colorado Springs, Christopher Nolan digitally erased buildings at Darien Ranch in Marble in western Colorado in order to create a railway station.

However, whilst fans of David Bowie may know this already, fans of the film may not: Bowie's Nikola Tesla has different coloured eyes.

This is because Bowie himself had different coloured eyes resulting from a fight that left his right eye permanently dilated, so that it appeared light blue in colour, whilst the other was brown. Bowie later claimed that his assailant did him a favour, since his different coloured eyes were a defining characteristic of his.

However, it is unknown why Nolan did not use CGI in order to make them both match Tesla's own blue eyes. However, to try and explain it in the film, Tesla informs Angier that his eyes changed from a darker to a lighter colour because his work requires so much serious thought.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
