20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Prestige

16. The Magic Fingers

After Angier's wife, Julia McCullough (Piper Perabo) drowns in a water tank illusion gone terribly wrong, he thirsts for revenge against Borden, whom he holds responsible for her death.

A small measure of his retribution comes when he boobytraps a bullet catch illusion that Borden is performing in a tavern, severing the first two fingers on Borden's left hand in the process.

Even though Nolan (and, as viewers will recall, Borden) went to great pains to erase the first two fingers on Christian Bale's left hand, there are still sequences in which his supposedly severed fingers appear. For example, they feature fleetingly in the scene in which he produces the key to a new house for his wife, Sarah and in the sequence in which he is writing down his magic tricks in jail before locking a prison guard (Jamie Harris) in his own manacles.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
