Similar to the Royal River namedrop, director Frank Darabont and his production designers also made sure to pay tribute to the another hugely popular Stephen King book and subsequent feature film: The Shining.

Throughout the infamous story of the Overlook Hotel’s latest victims — er, residents — is the menacing Room 237. Look closely and you’ll see that this number also appears in The Shawshank Redemption outside of Red’s prison cell.

Unlike The Shining, where Room 237 holds a truly terrifying sight, The Shawshank Redemption turns the number 237 into somewhat of a positive thing by associating it with the character of Red.
