After Mark finishes up an epic coding session in his dorm, he closes his eyes and his head appears to move backwards and forwards rhythmically, after which Eduardo asks him, "Mark, are you praying?"

In the film's home video commentary, however, Aaron Sorkin explained that Mark was actually "davening," a Yiddish word for prayer recitation in Judaism, characterised by specific head and body movements.

Sorkin stated that he originally had Eduardo ask Mark, "Mark, are you davening?," though changed it to the more general prayer inquiry to ensure the audience understood what he was actually doing.
