20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Truman Show

11. The Seahaven Island Sign Tries To Convince Truman To Stay

The film makes it abundantly clear that the producers have thrown up numerous hard roadblocks to prevent Truman from ever leaving Seahaven, such as making flights to Fiji unavailable and instilling in him a pathological fear of water after his father's "drowning."

This is also hinted at in more subtle ways in the film, such as when Truman has a breakdown and takes Meryl on a frantic drive around Seahaven, even driving onto the bridge out of the town.

But keen-eyed viewers might've noticed that the small sign in the bottom-right corner of the shot reads, "You are now leaving Seahaven Island! Are you sure that's a good idea?"

Though such a sign wouldn't ever stop a determined person from leaving, it is nevertheless an attempt to train Truman's subconscious to favour the familiarity of Seahaven and fear the unknown outside.
